Christian love requires that we work to meet the needs of suffering people: the sick, the poor, the hungry and the dying. We are responding by providing medical care, giving used clothing to destitutes, feeding hundreds of street children, helping with funds for emergency needs for those in crisis and taking care of the elderly and disabled. Jesus had compassion. He healed the sick and fed the hungry. We are to follow His example.
Apprenticeship and Vocational Training
We are teaching Africans “on the job” in Africa. Apprenticeship training enables people to feed their families while learning new skills. As Africans are trained in every aspect of God’s work, the church is strengthened. Areas of training we provide include theological education, computer technologies, radio broadcasting, construction and business management. Hard work, along with accomplishments, brings self-respect and dignity. Africans want to work and learn.
Technical Ministries
Technology can be used as tools for discipleship. Technology can greatly expand the effectiveness of a limited number of Christian workers. Computer science is changing Africa forever. Our FM radio station, Radio JOY, is reaching hundreds of thousands in a large geographical area with the Gospel and the highest-quality programs. Over one-third of our listening audience is Muslim. As the only local radio station in the area, we have a large, interested and involved audience. We are excited about the new opportunities the Lord is opening with technology.
Evangelism and Church Planting
Africa’s greatest need is for lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus. This is the number one priority for Joy in the Harvest. Many are finding new life in Christ through preaching, a variety of evangelism methods, and children’s and women’s ministries. As a result, churches are being formed, and existing churches are growing. We are helping people come to Jesus and helping Christians grow and walk in the Christian life. Christ’s mandate to all His followers is to “make disciples…”
